The History: Mr. Joseph A. Lindenmayer (pictured here) was a patient in 1991. His daughter, Josephine (Josie) Gierer, and her family established the Joseph A. Lindenmayer Employee of the Year Award, also known as the ICARE award, in 1992 as a way to acknowledge the kindness that was shown her father by the employees at Gaylord. The annual Award recognizes employees who exemplify the values of Gaylord: Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. ICARE

The Process: Each quarter, the Committee selects four (4) employees for the ICARE award. The employees are nominated by patients, families or staff. The 16 yearly recipients are then considered by the Committee for the prestigious Joseph A. Lindenmayer Employee of the Year Award which is bestowed during Legacy Week each July.

It is our employees who make Gaylord so special for our patients. Whether providing direct patient care or providing the myriad of support to the caregiver teams, each employee is vital to our success and to our mission of improving the health and functionality of our patients. In its deliberations of the candidates, the committee constantly reflects upon the importance of respect, not only for patients and families, but also for co-workers
